If you don't care about the proper use of the English language, then I'm a humorless grammar snob who needs to "get a life" (Mindless Catchphrase Alert!). If you do care, then I'm a defender of all that is holy and good. I don't believe that there are degrees of uniqueness. I refuse to accept the increasingly common use of "decimate" to mean "to destroy a great number or proportion of." I don't believe someone's head "literally" exploded unless I can see the flecks of skull and brain matter. I think people who tell you to "lighten up" should be set on fire. I have another Livejournal, but I have created this one to chronicle egregious misuses of the language wherever I find them. Please don't take this to mean I fail to appreciate dialects, regionalisms, or accents. These have their place in spoken language, and even in written language when the writer understands the effect he's creating. However, ignorant mistakes by writers and speakers who should know better make me clutch my ears and scream in pain; hence my user name.
Since I live in the Greater New Orleans area, many of my examples will be from the Times-Picayune, a rich source of ungrammatical fun.
